31 on 31 for Halloween Day 23: Brandon Tobatto's Sawyer

Our next installment for 31 on 31 for Halloween is interesting. Earlier this year, it was announced that we would be getting a new Texas Chainsaw film and be released by Netflix. It would follow an older Leatherface. It honestly left me with a sense of deja vu. I had previously seen something in that vein.

And while we wait for that new film, I thought I'd share my thoughts on Brandon Tobatto‘s SAWYER.

SAWYER tells the story of a pair of filmmakers making a 45th anniversary documentary on the Sawyer Massacre (the original ’74 film’s events). During this journey, they may be in the wrong place at the wrong time. And that leads them right to one of the oldest and angriest remaining members of the Sawyer family, Leatherface himself!

The film itself is great. It is a bite sized look at the world of an aged Leatherface. The characters were realistic and portrayed real as well. It was very refreshing to see these representations in a horror film.

The way Leatherface is portrayed in the film as well was nice. This is a portrayal that I loved to see. Another thing that loved so much was the different masks in the film. It was nice seeing the original ’74 mask. But the aged modern day mask was one that I enjoyed a lot as well. But my overall favorite of the masks is the one featured last.

It was also seeing the small appearance of Drayton Sawyer (played by Brandon Tobatto). The moment with Drayton that felt the most powerful was the voiceover towards the end of the film.

This film was very strong. It set up a wonderful story. And I hope that it would have the chance to be continued as this felt like the start of something very strong.

The effects in the film were very well done as well.

Rating: 5 out of 5. It leaves you wanting more in such a wonderful way.
